OK, so this is becoming comical. As you can see, the number of thermal events causing shutdown has increased since I installed the 04/19 updates.
That's two more today since I started working on my code this afternoon, and both times the system went into hibernation after less than a minute of 100% load on the CPU. I'm trying to complete a term project on Computational Optimisation, and this issue is forcing me to set the CPU priority of the process to LOW in order to avoid shutdowns. What good is a i7 Skylake CPU if I can't actually use the cycles to perform computations with my "general purpose calculating and computing machine"?
As of yet, the highest CPU core temp recorded is 76C. I don't think that's hot enough to warrant shutting the system down.
Is anyone else experiencing increased thermal shutdowns? I'm not a gamer so I don't have any other software at the moment that stresses the system. I've had this SP7 i7 16GB since March 6th, and I've been using it daily to work on neural networks and optimisation problems that are fairly CPU intense.
I ran into the same problem today. Never saw it before on my Surface Pro4. Is there any solution for this issue?
I installed the 04/19 updates to my Surface Pro 4 i7-16GB earlier today and now it's shutting down due to "critical thermal events" every time I put a load on the CPU.

I'm coding some maths/optimisation problems that are CPU-intensive but prior to these updates I only had the occasional thermal shutdown when running particularly complex simulations. That was annoying enough but now I can't even run through a single round of equations without it shutting down on me. It certainly wasn't doing this earlier today before the updates.
I see in the list of updates for 04/19 the following item:
"Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v103.1122.256.0) adjustments to system thermal tuning."
Maybe the tuning was a bit too conservative? HWmonitor is reporting a CPU temperature of 70 C immediately before the system shuts down.
