No thunderbolt on the Surface Pro 3?

It seem that the Surface Pro 3 is out with no thunderbolt connection. This is troubling mostly because of its compatibility (Anything mini-display works on Thunerbolt but not vice-versa) but more specifically because it seemed that they were trying to reach musicians in the early stages of the original release (Surface Pro I). Whats hot in the music scene now is thunderbolt. Anyone have an Idea why, other than cost reasons, did they go with this decision? Otherwise I hope this reaches Microsoft and let them know that it would be great to use a surface with ones traveling set up. Am I the only one that wants thunderbolt connectivity?

Surface | Surface Pro | USB-C

Thunderbolt is an Apple connection interface.  Apple only!

Actually Thunderbolt belongs to Intel.  Apple just has to have the newest and greatest to charge more.

The chipset in the SP3 is Tbolt capable and during the Reddit AMA it was asked about and an extremely vague answer was to check the power ( i think it was) connector slot.  So there were rumors that the port might be Tbolt capable....

Apple only!!!!  Thunderbolt was created for Apple by Intel and is licensed as such.  You will not find the connection type on anything except Apple devices and products designed to work with them.

Apple, in reality, doesn't create anything but does design them.  I would say that sometime in the near future, Thunderbolt will be released for use on other devices.  I have it on my Mac Mini and am thinking of getting that way overpriced monitor for it.  The interface works perfect and can't blame anybody for wanting it.  You can daisy chain off of it and can replace every connector on a computer - including video.

Apple has always found a way to freeload off of others and have been able to charge for it at a high price.

James - Lenovo and Acer have had Thunderbolt equipped laptops since 2012, it is owned by Intel, Apple helped develop it and gets a free or reduced license fee. Intel charges the other OEMs to use it, much like USB 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 (all owned by Intel as well).

All we know about the Data Bus in the Power Connector is that it is there and used by the Dock and MS has conformed it is not Thunderbolt.

If I were a betting man I would say it a USB 3.0/DisplyPort Pass Through for the dock.

And how this has to do with Microsoft? These issues have to be report to those developers no to Microsoft.

I'll gladly talk to whomever should hear this, Developers you say? The input looks good from everyone and it does seem people want Thunderbolt on their PCs.

"So there were rumors that the port might be Tbolt capable...." - That would be be great. Microsoft: "Just kidding, your mini display port is actually Tbolt."

Is anyone interested for production/recording reasons? Such a powerful portable device should be marketed/developed to those producing on the go. Unless its only for business people....

Just for the sake of clarity of others reading this thread later -

Thunderbolt is not an USB Extension but the combining of a 4x PCI Express 2.0 (PCIe) Bus with DisplayPort 1.1a Port.
