Surfacebook touchpad lock

Every now and then I will be on my surfacebook and the touchpad seems to lock out the tap function. So for instance when I tap the touchpad on a Tab in Chrome it will lock onto that tab until I click the pad to release it. It will also cause problems where it will highlight all the text on a page as if I am holding the pad down. This is very annoying cause it seems to come from nowhere and will fix itself when I restart my computer

Any solutions on how to reset this without restarting my SB?

Thanks

It sounds like you are occasionally triggering the Touchpad's lock mode by tapping on it.  You can turn this off in settings under Allow double-tap and drag.

If you want to disable touch tapping altogether, then turn off Allow taps on the Touchpad.  This will mean the when using the Touchpad, you will have to physically push down on it to click and select items rather than just tapping it lightly with your finger.

For me the issue appears to be only with Chrome and apps running under Chrome. If I'm using any of the Microsoft Office 365 applications there is no problem. If I'm using Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop there is no problem. If I'm using Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation there is no problem. For me the problem only seems to exist with Chrome and browser apps that run under Chrome.

Going forward I'm going to start documenting exactly what I'm doing at the time it occurs to be absolutely sure of what I'm saying. I should also note that for me the problem occurs very infrequently and I can often go for quite some time without an occurrence.

Another thought comes to mind. There is a known problem with the touchpad response sensitivity on the right side of the pad. I'm a pen and touch pad only user and I've learned to keep my touch tapping only on the left side where it always works. (I'm totally mouse-free!)

Are you sure the problem you're seeing is with the entire touch pad?

Thanks Gary. This is not a chrome only issue, this seems to affect browsing or clicking between apps as well.

Check your Chrome browser to see if you are running 32-bit or 64-bit.  If it is 32-bit upgrade it to 64-bit and most of your Chrome problems will go away. I say most problems will go away because I will still occasionally get a Chrome lockup or freeze using 64-bit Chrome. I know it is a Chrome problem because I can immediately go to another app or another browser and everything is working.
