How to fix a small screen scratch

Anonymous

Several small shallow scratches have appeared on the screen of my Surface Pro. I use my Surface for digital art; so I am concerned about the scratches worsening. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to repair them? One scratch slightly catches the stylus despite being hairline. It is the one I am concerned about.

Many Thanks!

Okay, I installed a screen protector without any hitches. It made the tiny scratches close to the frame all-but disappear. However, the scratch that concerns me still catches the stylus. Not as bad as before, but it is still a concern.

I noticed a few tiny scratches on the protector after drawing yesterday. The stylus tip, tested against my forearm, has a sharper edge than my old wacom Intuos stylus when I compared the two. The stylus leaves a surface scrape on the skin unlike my wacom pen. Could this be the culprit?

If the scratch on the screen didn't catch the stylus, I could live with it.  The protector did reduce the play at least. I didn't purchase insurance and can't afford $500 for an under warranty replacement. I may just have to live with it and be careful when painting in the area.

That should work.  Biggest effect of the protector will probably be a minor pen sensitivity in relation to the drawing but will provide a smooth surface to work with.

I think Corning probably has some "bad" Gorilla Glass.  It is probably breaking apart on its own.  A screen protector could work but would effect your pen function plus that would not stop the breakup of the glass.  Eventually, it would probably fracture and fall apart.

Get with Microsoft Technical Support, they will send you an RMA and they will replace the machine (there is no real repair for these tablets).

It may take a little while to get the machine back.  Depends on if they have any units on hand to ship out.

    Thanks for the reply, James.

I made sure the stylus only used on the screen. The scratch is barely noticeable, unless I am drawing in the area and feel the slight catch. Unfortunately it is in the middle of the screen. Would screen protector may help reduce the catching feel?

How would I go about getting a repair?

    Thanks again

I do believe that the glass is Corning's Gorilla Glass.  You may need to check Corning's web site: http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/ and look around there if they have something for that.  Chances are slim though.  You may need to have it repaired.

Check your stylus pen as well because that should not happen.  The tip maybe causing that problem.  Make sure that nothing other than that stylus pen is used for drawing as well.
