Memory upgrade options

First off, really frustrated with the inability to contact microsoft sales in any way with a pre-buy question on the surface page. Now for the real question though, can the RAM in the surface be upgraded? No-one seems to know. Regardless of if it can, will we be able to use Ready Boost on micro-SD cards inserted into the unit? Thanks for the feedback :)

It is unclear from your question if you are asking about the RT or Pro, regardless, both are sealed systems and I highly doubt user upgrades are available. Ready-boost is in ineffective on any system with a SSD and typically the system will not enable it on removable media. You can use the Micro-SD card to expand storage though.

The RT (ARM) device has 2GB RAM and the Pro (Intel x86 Core i5) has 4GB RAM.

Is MS for real with that ****??$2400.00 for an unworkable unupgradeable sealed unit?? Thought i would support the industry and buy into the leading edge...it's been a while since I've bought a brand new system. Now you are guaranteeing that you will rip off customer's . Nasty little criminal **** like you is why we need the 2nd amendment.

    Hi Cobalt Wraith.

Thank you for your interest and I apologize for your frustration. To follow up what Jeffrey said, you are not able to upgrade the RAM on Surface.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I have a similar question. I have the Surface RT and find it operate very slow at opening and running programs compared to my old laptop. What can be done to increase performance on this system if a memory upgrade is out of the question?

As Jeffrey and Jordana have said it is not possible to upgrade the RAM in any Surface unit be it RT or Pro, when it is released.

It is also important to note that any attempt to physically open or tamper with the Surface device will void your warranty.
