Driver issues with latest Surface Book 2 Firmware Update

After installing the August 1st update for my Surface Book 2 13" through Windows Update, I am now getting driver errors for both the "Surface System Aggregator" and "Surface UEFI" in Device Manager. Both devices are producing the same error message "This device cannot start. (Code 10) The request is not supported." I tried rolling back the update and downloading the Firmware update package and reinstalling manually but it still resulted in the same driver errors. The device as a whole seems to still run normally and I haven't encountered any other issues other than those error messages. I also tried running the Surface Diagnostics Toolkit and but that didn't seem to help so I'm at a lost.

    Hi,

I seem to have managed to solve this issue. It seems to be related to BitLocker/UEFI SecureBoot's preventing the installatio or execution of the updated drivers.

What I did was to follow the guide

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4057282/bitlocker-recovery-key-prompt-after-surface-uefi-or-tpm-firmware-updat

to disable BitLocker on C:, reboot to UEFI, set SecureBoot to Microsoft only and reboot again. Only at that point the Upgrading Firmware booting screen appeared and took a few minutes.

Once the system booted, the drivers are all working fine. I them re-enabled BitLocker using the command in the guide above.

I would appreciate if someone could communicate this to the Surface team, since it seems to be an omission on their side.

Thank you for getting back to us. Can you tell us the OS build of your Surface Book 2? You can check it by typing winver in the search bar, then press Enter.

In the meantime, run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to diagnose and fix the issue. Click **here**to know more about the toolkit. After you run the SDT, we suggest that you use this shutdown process to make sure your Surface completely turns off. Here’s how:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Should you have any questions, feel free to post back.

    1. The troubleshooter detected the errors but couldn't identify a solution.
    2. I successfully uninstalled the devices which resulted in them rolling back to an older driver version upon restart. However, after a few hours Windows Update redownloads and reinstalls the latest (problematic) drivers and the errors return.
    3. Device event log shows that my issue is exactly identical to what "Wigster" posted but mine is limited to just the Service Aggregator and UEFI. My SB2 13" is also the i7 model.

I have the same problem on SB2 13" i7 since the August firmware updates.

There are three non-functioning drivers. I have run the Troubleshooter (din't fix anything) and I have uninstalled the drivers and rebooted the machine. The drivers reinstalled in the same failed state.

Here are some details from the Device Manager event logs (note I've rebooted multiple times, it does not resolve the issue)

    Hi Bill,

This error may occur due to driver conflicts. To resolve this concern, kindly follow the solutions below:

Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. To do so: Go to Settings> Troubleshoot > Hardware and Devices > Run the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the Driver. Here’s how:

    1. Go to Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Firmware.
    3. Right-click on the device and then select Uninstall.
    4. Restart your Surface for the driver to reinstall.

Let us know how it turns out.
