I was able to fix this issue myself by twisting open then rapidly closing the battery compartment while simultaneously pressing both the right click button (flat side) and the eraser button.
YMMV

My new Surface pen paired fine and worked correctly until this afternoon. Now, I only get the cursor when the eraser end is pointed at my Surface 3. Is there a fix for this?
I've unpaired and re-paired the pen multiple times. I've reversed the pen AAAA battery several times, and anything else I could try. It's still FUBAR.

first time I've seen this issue. pairing isn't necessary for using the pen to
write. so unpairing and repairing would not make a difference. if you are in the
US, please go to the closest physical retail Microsoft Store and show them this
problem. they will test on their demo tablets and test their pens on yours.
