Surface Pen Find My Device No Location data available Unavailable or Greyed Out

My Surface Pen is not listed un "Find My Devices". There is no option to locate it. I haven't lost it, but it sure would be nice if this feature worked properly. Not sure if a recent update is to blame.

My Surface Pen (2019) and Surface Pro i5 (early 2018) are paired. They work fine. All buttons are functional. If I hold the top button for seven seconds it goes into pairing more. Windows 10 lists the date that they paired but not the last know location of the pen, which it promises to do. What gives?

Unless you have a device with a GPS, this feature uses Bluetooth and the IP address of your Surface to approximate the location. Even if it worked, it wouldn't pinpoint the location very well.

I've got more than one Surface, and none of them show location data for the Pens.

    Hello MichaelKoch-Schulte,

Thanks for checking this with Microsoft Community.

'Find my device' section provides you the last known location of the pen. However, if the feature has not been set prior to using the pen, then the app might not be able to track it.

Also,  the Surface pen doesn't have GPS, it connects to your device using Bluetooth, and Windows determines the last location you were using the pen, and saves the information to help you track it down. The app will only provide you the approximate location.

You can enable the tracker feature on your Surface Pen by following the steps below:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Click on Update & Security.
    3. Click on Find my device.
    4. Click the Change button, and turn on the Save my device's location periodicallytoggle switch.

Once completed, use the pen so that Surface device can start tracking its physical location.

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Click on Update & Security.
    3. Click on Find my device.
    4. Under "Where's my pen?' click the Go here to track it link.

After completing the steps, the Maps app will open showing you the last location that Surface device was able to record you using the pen. This feature will only tell the approximate location.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Belle

Nope. Doesn't work. Send me a screenshot of your screen. Have you tried reproducing the bug?
