I have the exact same issue.   I have held the power button, power + volume up, 4-key combo (Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B) and I still get a dark screen and the red light on the Detach button.  Worked all day Friday then went to use the computer on Saturday only to now be in this current situation since.

    Hi,Where can I locate this hole 5-6?

They are on each side of the clipboard section from the bottom up. When you gently enter the hole it will slide in at an angle. Do it to both sides and it will release.   Once released charge the clipboard and then power it on.  Once it has enouch power connect to dock and keep charging SB.   Restart.  That worked for me and i havent had any issues since.

You may have already received a replacement but I think I fixed my issue.  Still evaluating.  Shortly after posting I looked how to manually detach the clipboard and I am up and running.

Using a paperclip, I was able to manually detach the clipboard by pushing in at hole 5-6 (point a flashlight and you can see the hole).  I will go in at an angle and you will feel the spring.  Do it to both sides.

Once detached, plug in the clipboard to the charger and let it charge.  The red light likely meant the clipboard had no power because it was at 0%.  Now to see if the base is the source of the problem not charging the clip board.  We will see.

    Hi, saikalyan1998!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Book that doesn't turn on and showing red light on the Detach key. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you.

I believe you tried to force shutdown the device and restart as you mentioned pressing the power button and Volume button. Is it the Volume-up button? If yes, then that's what you did. Also, you manually detached the screen and the device still doesn't turn on. If I may ask, did you plug in the charger to the charging port on the screen? This is the port that connects your keyboard to the screen. If that's what you did and the device still doesn't turn on, I am afraid the device needs to be sent in for replacement.

By the way, when it was connected to the keyboard, have you also tried the 4-key combo (Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B) trying to wake the display?

When you plug in the charger, does the tip illuminate, is it blinking or is it off?

If the tip is on, press the power button. Do you see any indication on the screen that it is on?

If not, please try to wipe the power connector with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

Plug it back in, try turning the power connector over and plugging into the device from a different orientation. You may also try plugging it into another wall outlet. Try to leave the charger plugged into the Surface Book's screen for at least an hour.

If the device still does not turn on, kindly Contact Microsoft Support for replacement options. If you are outside the US, please check this page to know the number for your country in our list of Global Customer Service phone numbers.

We hope this helps you out.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
