What is the average battery life of a new surface pro 9?

I bought a surface pro 9 about a month ago. The official product description says it has a battery life of "up to" 16 hours. I've found that with regular use (email, social media, typing in word, the occasional youtube video but no full length movies or tv and no bluetooth) it lasts about 6 hours. To be fair I haven't tinkered with the settings, I'm just interested in a typical user experience at this point.

My question is: is 6 hours normal for regular use with no special adjustments for a brand new Surface Pro 9 or might this indicate a defective battery or some other issue?

A 6 hour battery life is not necessarily a deal breaker (although a pretty steep reduction from the advertised 16 hours) but my bigger concern is that if there is an issue with the battery I don't find myself in the situation in a few months time where I have a 1 year old computer that needs constant access to an outlet to work. Any advice?

    Hello Cameron,

Thank you so much for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern to us. The advertised battery life of "up to" 16 hours is based on specific test conditions and usage patterns. Actual battery life may vary based on usage, settings, and other factors. A battery life of 6 hours with regular use is within the expected range for the Surface Pro 9.

It is possible that the battery life of your Surface Pro 9 is lower than expected due to the way you use it. For instance, if you keep the screen at high brightness while watching videos and browsing the web, the battery life will be impacted.

If you are concerned about the battery life of your device, you can try adjusting the settings to optimize battery life. For example, you can lower the screen brightness, turn off Bluetooth, and close any unnecessary apps running in the background.
