When I connect the Surface Pro 7 to my (Sony) widescreen TV through HDMI (Type C HDMI convertor) I of course don't get a full screen display because of the aspect ratio, I'm left with black space on the left and right which is frustrating for watching a movie.
I tried Son's support but according to them if the connection is made via a convertor it's not possible to change the aspect ratio from the TV it has to be from the device.
I tried all the tricks that I know of nothing works, even screen mirroring didn't work as I suppose Sony and Microsoft devices don't get along very well with each other, once I make the connection from the Surface side, the TV disconnect it self from the WiFi network, it's a Sony issue.
Any body as ideas?
Thanks
Talal

I tried it on a Samsung TV and it actually worked!
Then I found a way to change it on the Sony as well, but there was a problem, if I let the TV screen ON with the Surface screen off (display screen 2 only) it revers to 4:3 ratio.
OK if I keep both screens on, the TV will restart after exactly 2 minutes which is really wierd, right.
Anyway thank you very much it appears the Surface is innocent after all ;D It looks like it's a sony sony problem I'll reach out to them.

Thanks, but this is not like something that went wring that needs to be fixed, it's about the aspect ratio of the device it self, it's how it's built
Hello Talal0023,
Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We really appreciate all the efforts that you did just to possibly resolve the issue.
For the meantime, please run**Surface Diagnostic Toolkit****.**It is a self-healing tool which looks for potential issues and fixes them, as well as ensures your device is completely up to date. Or manually check Windows Updates by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Check for updates.
if this step will not work we can try to download and install the latest drivers and firmware Click here - If there's not an .msi file that corresponds to the build of Windows 10 you have installed, select the .msi file that's closest to your build number.
please also check your monitor if it is compatible with your Surface, here is the list of monitors that is compatible with the Surface
Please keep us posted.
