I have had my microsoft pen for 3 years, and it will function properly for about 10 minutes, then cut off. I replaced the battery, and it did the same. Then I bought a new pen, and I am still having the same problem, even after updating my laptop. Now I am sitting with 2 useless pens, a pack of batteries and no solutions :/ college starts next week, please help

My pen stopped working (used a handful of times), changed the battery (new Duracell) and No light.

    Some help here?

    Hi Makandcheese,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having issues with your Microsoft pen, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

May I know which Surface Pen do you have? See this page for reference: Identify your Surface Pen and features - Microsoft Support

Whenever the pen stops working, does the touchscreen functionality of the Surface stops working also or not and you are still able to navigate the device using the touchscreen? If touchscreen still works, how about the multi-touch functionality like zooming in and out, does it still work when issue occurs?

When the issue occurs (pen stops working), kindly try to go to Device Manager, expand Human Interface devices, right-click on Intel Precise Touch device then select Uninstall device (Note: If prompted with a checkbox stating "Delete the driver software for this device", leave it uncheck then hit Uninstall.). Once uninstalled, click on Action then select Scan for hardware changes until the driver is reinstalled then check if the pen would start to work again. Let me know how it goes.

Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the issue may not be with the pen itself, but with the Surface device that you are using it with. Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check for updates: Make sure that your Surface device is up to date with the latest software updates. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on Check for updates. Make sure all updates are installed including Optional updates.
    2. Restart your Surface device: Sometimes, simply restarting your device can resolve issues with the pen. To do this, press and hold the power button on your Surface device for 10 seconds, and then release it. Wait a few seconds, and then press the power button again to turn on your device.
    3. Run the Surface Diagnostic Tool: This should run some system checks and repairs on the device. See this page for reference: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion
