    Hi JulieFraser3,

The Find My device feature uses the wireless connection and not the GPS.

    Hope this answers your inquiry.

That's how find my device works. If it's turned on location services will show its location when connected to Wi-Fi. It's not like a cell phone that shows its GPS location as long as it has power. It's actually not very useful for finding a stolen device.

So while my device is lost it cant be found unless it is connected yo wifi? THat is highly unlikely since the person who stole xsnt get in because it has  a pass code. Even if ive left it accidenlty if its sitting there locked... it cant be located. I cant see how this can ever help me find my devise.

    Hi JulieFraser3,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

The data of the last location to where your device last detected is the area where the device got connected to a Wi-Fi or internet. We suggest signing in to your Microsoft Account > Go to Devices > Under lists of devices, look for the specific device. It should show you the last location of the device and when it was last seen.

Additionally, the device has to be connected again to a Wi-Fi in order to record data location.

If this answers your question, we highly encourage you to inform our Community by clicking on Yes or marking my post as an answer. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind regards,

    John Neil_J
