My Microsoft Mouse is not working

Hello,

I have a Microsoft mouse that was purchased in Feb 2022 that no longer works.

    My MS Surface Laptop (Windows 10) says my MS surface mouse is connected, working properly and has the most current drivers. I have replaced batteries, uninstalled & reinstalled the mouse and completed a current Windows update, but no matter how I move or click the mouse there's no cursor on the screen. Is there a setting somewhere causing this, or do I need a new mouse?

    If your Microsoft mouse is not working with your Surface device, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue. Follow these steps one by one to see if they help fix your problem:

    1. Check the Batteries

    If your mouse is wireless, the first step is to check the batteries. Replace them with new ones to ensure that the issue is not due to low power.

    1. Reconnect the Mouse

    If it's a Bluetooth mouse, go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices on your Surface device, and try removing the mouse from the list of paired devices. Then, put your mouse in pairing mode and reconnect it.

    If it's a USB mouse, try unplugging it and then plugging it back into a different USB port.

    1. Check for Hardware Issues

    Try connecting the mouse to another computer to see if it works. This can help you determine if the problem is with the mouse itself or your Surface device.

    1. Update or Reinstall Mouse Drivers

    Go to Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start menu. Find your mouse under Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on it, and select Update driver. If that doesn't work, you can try uninstalling the device from here, and then restarting your Surface to let Windows reinstall the drivers automatically.

    1. Try Using the Surface Troubleshooter

    Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Here, you can run the Bluetooth troubleshooter if it's a Bluetooth mouse or the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter for USB mice.

    At the same time, you can also click on this link to try troubleshooting solutions related to the Microsoft Mouse.

    1. Test your mouse on a new local administrator account on your Surface device. Check if it could be a configuration issue with the current account causing the mouse to behave abnormally.
