Enabling WSL2 appears to break audio output through mini displayport to HDMI

I had WSL enabled and had no issue playing audio to my television connected from the mini displayport to HDMI. Once I updated to WSL2, video could be displayed but I could no longer get audio to work. I tried all troubleshooting from checking Windows Updates, driver updates and rollbacks in Device Manager, running the Audio Troubleshooter, adjusting default formats in the audio for the TV output.

It was only when I unticked the Windows Subsystem for Linux box in Windows Programs and Features and rebooted that I was able to get sound to work through HDMI. Though it did require me to adjust the audio format (24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality))

Is this a known issue? Is there any workaround?

Update: Upon seeing that disabling WSL in Programs and Features, and then adjusting the audio format helped, I tested to see what would happened when I reenabled WSL. Upon first reboot, while leaving the mini displayport to HDMI adapter plugged into the Surface, I found audio was still working through the television.

However, I fully shutdown my Surface, unplugged the mini displayport adapter, powered on the Surface, plugged in the mini displayport adapter, and found there was once again no audio being output to the television.
