Microsoft Surface battery replacement recommendation OR Power bank option?

Anonymous

Hi Microsoft community
I have surface pro 6. The battery is dyeing. Either I need battery replacement or power bank.
Does Microsoft sells or recommend some third party battery replacement?

In later case (power bank option), what kind of power bank does I need to have? I mean what kind of configuration (Volt, watt, ampere) should it have to work with surface pro 6.

Thank You

    Hi I_601,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, we understand that you are now experiencing battering wear on your Surface Pro 6 and would like to check options on either replacing the battery or getting a power bank that you could carry with your Surface.

On the battery replacement first, I'm sorry but we do not sell battery replacement for the device, and we also do not recommend opening the device to replace components as it would present potential hazards.

For the power bank option also, Surface devices can be charged through their USB-C port following the guidelines here: USB-C and Fast Charging for Surface - Microsoft Support. However, the Surface Pro 6 (Surface Pro 6 specs and features - Microsoft Support) does not have a USB-C port on it and so, you'll need to charge it through the SurfaceConnect port and I don't think there are power bank that has a SurfaceConnect connector. With that said, you'll need a SurfaceConnect to USB-C adapter. To use the adapter, see this page for details: Set up the Surface Connect to USB-C adapter - Microsoft Support. Please note also that the SurfaceConnect to USB-C adapter is currently unavailable also on the Microsoft Store (Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter – Microsoft Store). You may try checking for stock availability on our authorized retailers.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

    Hi I_601,

    Thank you for the response.

The above-mentioned power bank should work fine on your Surface Pro 6 since it has enough power output to charge the Surface. Though the bundled power supply of the surface has lesser wattage output, this should be fine since the Surface has features to regulate the power it would receive.

However, for the second concern on how to connect it to the Surface and as mentioned also on our previous response, the Surface Pro 6 does not have a USB-C port and it won't support charging also through the USB-A port. The Surface Pro 6 can only be charged through the Surface Connect port (charging port) and with that, you'll need to have the SurfaceConnect to USB-C adapter which unfortunately is no longer available at the Microsoft Store: Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter – Microsoft Store. You may instead check on our authorized retailers if they still have this adapter available.

    Hope this answers your concerns.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

Thank You so much for helping and responding.
I see your point of setting up USB c adapter. It seems like it related to setting up USB c adapter with dock or power supply NOT to power bank. I mean what kind of power bank (watt, volts and amperes) Do I need to use with USB c adapter. I see some power bank on amazon that claims to be compatible with surface pro 6. However, In a link you shared has some values (minimum 12 V, 27 Watt and max 40 Watt) that need to be met in case of dock/power supply/charger etc. I see some power bank's out put is more or less than that.

    Like (https://www.amazon.com/ROMOSS-40000mAh-Portable-Charging-Microsoft/dp/B0B4SJTXZD/ref=sr_1_17_sspa?keywords=power+bank+for+surface+pro+8&qid=1691081957&sprefix=power+bank+for+surface+8%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-17-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1)

In the above power bank, The max out put is 65watt and the max ampere with 12 V is 1.5 which are actually different from original charger out put (12 volt and 2.58 ampere).

I do not have formal training/education in electrical problems. So these might be stupid questions/details. So briefly, What kind of power bank do I need to have to set up with USB C adapter to charge device on Go.

    Thank You
