I was looking at some Power banks for charging my Surface Pro 8 through the USB-C port while traveling and was wondering what power banks people recommend for this? I know the tablet needs about 50-55W according to Microsoft's general specifications.

I was thinking of getting perhaps one of the Anker 737 power banks (which has a 26k mAh rating and is rated for 87W).

What do you guys recommend? Needs to be under 100 Whr so I can take it on a plane with me.

    Hi cbassett82,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

For charging your Surface Pro 8 via USB-C while traveling, it's important to choose a power bank that meets the device's power requirements and is also compliant with airline regulations. The Surface Pro 8 charges best via its USB-C ports, and a power bank with a 60W Power Delivery (PD) output or higher is recommended for effective charging. The Anker 737 power bank you mentioned, with a 26k mAh capacity and rated for 87W, seems like a solid choice as it exceeds the minimum power delivery needed for your Surface Pro 8. It's also under the 100 Whr limit for airline travel, which makes it suitable for your needs.

Unfortunately, as a Microsoft agent I cannot recommend third-party power banks for you. But I would keep this question open so that other users or volunteers in the community can provide you with suggestions.

Remember to check the physical size, weight, and additional features like the number of ports or included cables that might be important for your travel convenience. Always ensure that the power bank you choose is within the airline's allowed capacity for carry-on luggage. Happy travels!

    Your Sincerely

I advise you not to charge with a backup charger or a non-genuine charger because it can damage the surface. I advise you not to charge with a backup charger or a non-genuine charger because it can damage the surface. I also have a friend whose surface was damaged because of charging with a backup charger.

The Anker PowerCore III 26k (now called the 747) can charge the SP8 but I'm not sure if it can actually power the tablet and charge the battery at the same time (I never tried). But I was able to charge the tablet from about 20% to full in about 30 minutes with the power bank, which I've linked below.

This is the one I have (it was formerly called the PowerCore III 26k) and it still passes TSA for domestic and international travel (some batteries exceed the 100Whr limit). You could try the bigger Anker 747 that does 250W (99Whr rated I think) as that might be able to actually power the tablet and charge the battery but I'm not sure. This is the one I have: https://www.anker.com/products/b1291?search_category=autofill&q=anker%20747&variant=41742689468566

(I would wait for a sale though as I only paid $70 for mine, but it was like 50% off on sale at the time.)
