I have a fire stick, type-c to hdmi adapter and a Microsoft Surface 9 Pro. How do I stream on my fire stick using the Surface as a monitor? If it is possible.

I have tried plug and play but the Surface does not read the devices.

    Hi Muhimin,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Unfortunately, using your Microsoft Surface Pro 9 as a monitor for a device like the Amazon Fire Stick is not directly possible through plug-and-play using a Type-C to HDMI adapter. The Surface Pro 9’s USB-C and HDMI ports are designed for output only, meaning they can send video to an external monitor but cannot receive video input from another device such as a Fire Stick.

To use your Surface Pro 9 to stream the content from a Fire Stick, you would need a workaround.

    • Use a Video Capture Card: A USB video capture card can be connected to your Surface Pro 9 via USB-C. This device would allow you to take the HDMI output from the Fire Stick and stream it as video input on your Surface.
    1. Plug the Fire Stick into the HDMI input on the capture card.
    2. Connect the capture card to your Surface Pro 9 via USB-C.
    3. Use software (Open Broadcaster Software) to capture and display the HDMI signal on your Surface.
    • Remote Desktop via Apps: Use apps on both the Surface and Fire Stick to sync content or stream between devices through a media server. This won’t use the Surface as a direct monitor, but it allows content sharing between the devices.

Unfortunately, simply using an HDMI or USB-C adapter alone won’t work since Surface Pro’s ports are output-only. A capture card or screen mirroring software are your best bets.

    Your Sincerely

    Hi Muhimin,

You also don't need the streaming stick if your goal is to stream from any Windows PC. Just go to the website of the service you wish to stream. If you bought this streaming stick to watch content from Amazon Video, for example, then you would just go to https://www.amazon.com/video and watch from your Edge browser.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg
