Why won’t my surface pro 7 charge? Changed the charger and the power source (plug). No light comes on

    Hi Tom Burke2,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry to know that your Surface device stopped charging.

Does your Surface currently turn on?

If the LED light on the power connector is off, make sure the connector is connected securely to the device. Check cables and reset your power supply unit: Disconnect the charger from your Surface, unplug the power cable from the power outlet in the wall, and then disconnect any USB accessories.

Wait at least 10 seconds. This gives the charger time to reset.

After that, clean the connector with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, and check for any damage. (Replace damaged cables.) Plug the charger back into the power outlet and your Surface. Then turn on your Surface.

Plug it in the other way: Flip the connector on the charger 180 degrees, and then check to see if the LED light comes on and determine if your Surface starts charging again.

Try using USB-C PD charger if you have one available. USB Type-C PD charger needs to be rated at the same wattage or higher as the power supply that came with your Surface.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

Interesting problem, as I am currently seeing this with all 3 of my surface pro laptops (2 4 pro, 1 7 pro). Now there are dead, and no light on power supply.

purchased brand new 127W power supply (microsoft branded) and tested with same results.

Interesting enough the 7 pro does appear to be charging via USB-C currently pulling 56.2 watts.

However this does not help the 4 pro's as they have no USB-C port.

What is going on, there is no way that all three of these laptops all stop working at the same time due to hardware issues!

Is there any way that this could be a software/update problem? I had a new charger (out of the package) that did not work as well.

    A USB-C charging cable works.

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

You will need to follow the step to get a replacement here -> What to do if your Surface power supply or charger doesn’t work

    Hope that helps,

    Greg

Those things didn't work. The slot is clean and I used a different charger.

It's not a battery issue as I was able to charge with a USB-C cable.
