Camera not working on Surface Pro 4 after update to Windows 10 Pro 20H2 & camera driver(s)

Hi

My camera is no longer working on my Surface Pro 4 after I updated to Windows 10 Pro 20H2 (released on 26 November 2020) & my camera driver(s) to Intel(R) AV Stream Camera 2500 (released 12 May 2020). I now receive the Error code 0xA00F4244. I don't have the rollback option for my camera as I disabled that option when I was installing it (everything in hindsight!). I've also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver (though I may need to do this manually rather than using automated tools which select the latest drivers. As an FYI, I used Avast Driver Updater to update all of my drivers.

Any help gratefully received as I need to use my camera for Teams and Zoom meetings!

Thanks

Apologies for the delay in my reply.

I managed to get my front camera to work after my original post (trial and error, not sure what finally worked but I did switch the cameras off and on again (more than once) via the UEFI screen!). Now, however, having downloaded further Windows (including optional) and driver updates in mid-January, my front camera is not working again! Frustratingly, when I run the Surface Diagnostics Tool for Business, everything else on my Surface works, including the Rear Camera, and it looks like the IR Camera is also working as I see an IR image of me on screen (bright eyes and facial image on a dark background).

As an FYI, my OS build is 19042.746 and the Firmware .msi I last downloaded was 18362_20.034.43185.0 (which I guess translates into a UEFI 109.3192.768). Is there a more up-to-date firmware update (FYI, it would be useful if dates could be added to these firmware updates so we could easily identify which is the latest)?

    Thanks

    Hi

I had the problem with my cameras on my Surface Pro 6 with the same OS build.  In device manager, the cameras reporter a power failure.  I managed to get the cameras working by uninstalling the drivers for Intel Control Logic.  You will see 3 entries for this in Device Manager under System Devices.  Uninstall the driver and hopefully on reboot, Windows finds the old drivers.  My drivers were recently updated by a program called Driver Booster 8.2.  I managed to uninstall and the older drivers restored my cameras.

The driver date is 3/12/2018 and its version 30.15063.6.8611.  Try this out.

    cheers

    Stephen

    Hi Marrion_Y,

thank you for the advice although I fear your steps are too general for the issue. I have the exact same device and thus the exact same problem as Julian Mobbs. I went through your steps and it didn't solve the issue. However step 2 was not possible because there is no .msi file for my OS build (10.0.19041).

I'm guessing that the newest windows upgrade rendered the camera inoperable. Is Microsoft aware of this? Will this be fixed in a coming upgrade?

Thanks so much for any support, as you can imagine, my webcam is even more precious to me (thanks COVID!) than in normal times...

@Julian Mobbs: If you have had any success with fixing the problem I'd be grateful for any advice you might have.

    Hi Julian Mobbs,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

Avast Driver Updater is a third party tool and we do not recommend using third party tools in updating the Surface. Please run these steps below to troubleshoot the issue on the device:

1: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update

    2: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro 4 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

3: RunSystem File Checker Tool in Windows 10

If still the issue persist, boot the device to its UEFI screen. See this page for the steps on How to get to the UEFI settings. Once you are on the UEFI screen, go to Devices. Check if the IR, Front and Rear camera options are enabled. If they are already enabled, try to disable them first for about 10 seconds then back to enabled. Choose Exit > Restart now. After the restart, please check if issue persist.

    Hope this helps.
