Surface Pro 9 battery life

Hi,

I purchased a Surface Pro 9 with i7, 32GB Ram and 1 TB SSD.

The battery life is extremly poor. I loose more or less 1% per minute, even if surface is idle.

Watching TV with Kodi with reduced brightness (60 hertz) through Wifi 6e to a TV-Headend server,

It lost 66% of battery capacity in 2 hours.

So in general i’m far away from reaching 15 hours, but even far away from 6-8 hours battery life.

6-8 should somehow be minimum.

Even only executing simple tasks like code editing, using word, … i reach only 4 hours.

And yes i‘ve followed all the standard suggestions from Microsoft.

For surface 8 similar issues are reported, but even with the 12th generation of intel, the battery problems seems

not be solved.

So Microsoft, how to solve the issues ?

Is this normal for every device or is this only a single device issue (on the device i received) ?

Best Regards

Unfortunately, I experienced the exact same issues with my Surface Pro 8 i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB model and still haven't reached a resolution. If you are still within the return window, I highly recommend you return it. Once you are outside the return window, they will only offer you a refurbished model. Also, best of luck reaching a live person before the return window closes. I get less than an hour on a single charge and severe overheating even after implementing MS' recommended steps, to include resetting the SP8 to factory settings. I had hoped MS would resolve the battery life and overheating issue with the SP9, but it sounds like no such luck.

I have the same issue with my new Surface Pro 9. The battery life is no where near 15 hours, and I've only been using it to browse the web. It's probably around 6 hours max.

I have the same issue, but mine is the i7, 16GB of RAM variant. I've owned many Surface devices over the years and none of them ever get me close to 8 hours of battery life. The most I ever get is 6 hours. Nowadays I get about 4 hours, that's with the variable refresh rate on, and brightness to 60%. I've just decided that I don't care about the battery life, bought a battery bank, and said screw it.

I'm not going to switch to a Mac/iPad setup that I had before. I love my Surface but battery life is absolutely awful on these devices.

The Device has been replaced. Now i'm between 6 and 8 hours of battery life. Not excellent, but in an acceptable range.

One exception is watching videos and tv through kodi. Here i will receive a battery life between 4.5 and 5 hours (brighness 40%, 60hz).

    Best Regards

    Hi,

I expected this answer. The surface is completly new and has been setup new with all new drivers and firmware versions, steps are executed and suggestions are followed.

Using an i7 with 32Gb ram, i expected less battery life. As i wrote i would be satisfied with 6-8 hours.

But i‘m still far away from this.

Base is currently Windows 11 22H2.

Nothing that explains it, but still the poor battery life exists.

I even changed a number of services to manual start, so that they do not run in the background and i run brightness (20-30%), … on a minimum with power safe mode.

In Autostart i disabled every app besides the necessary Microsoft services.

The battery status report showed that the capacity is above the design capacity.

Any other possibilities to detect reasons ?

And if i‘m using the surface in for me realistic szenarios like code editing, runing WSL2 with a small web server, an oracle database (express version, …) or presenting powerpoints, doing text editing (notes), having teams session, simple web browsing, … it means, i would not even reach the 4 hours ?

    Regards
