Hi muhsinscat,
Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that your Surface Pro 8 won't go to sleep when you close the lid, and you want to change your computer settings so that the option for your computer to go to sleep would appear in the dropdown menus of the power option settings.
Considering that this works fine before, kindly try first checking the Surface drivers' health through the Surface app and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to run some system checks and repairs. Make sure also that all updates are installed in Windows Settings > Windows Updates including Optional updates then see if issues persist. See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support
If issue persists, to add the Sleep option under the dropdown of your power menu options, follow these steps:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select "Choose what closing the lid does" on the left panel.
- See under Shutdown settings section if Sleep is checked.
- If not, click "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
- Check the box for Sleep option then click Save changes.
- Restart the Surface to apply changes.
Next, to address the issue where the device goes to Hibernate or Shutdown when lid is closed, follow these steps:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select "Choose what closing the lid does" on the left panel.
- Set the "When I close the lid" option to Sleep for both On battery and Plugged in.
- Click Save changes.
- Go back to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select "Change when the computer sleeps" on the left panel.
- Select "Change advanced power settings".
- On the Power Options window, expand Power buttons and lid.
- Make sure that Lid close action is set to Sleep.
- Click Apply > OK.
- Restart the Surface to apply changes then see if issue persists.
If none of these solutions work, you can try resetting your power settings to their default values:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type "powercfg -restoredefaultschemes" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
- Restart your computer and see if that resolves the issue.
Let me know how it goes.
Kind regards,
Marrion
