Surface Pro X: is 32-bit x86 piece of compatible? Needs emulation?

I’m thinking about getting a Surface Pro X, but I want to make sure a program I neeed will run on it. The program is x86, but is listed as compatible with Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. My understanding is that any program that is 32-bit compatible will run on Surface Pro X without needing emulation, is this correct?

Or does any x86 program that is either 32-bit or 64-bit need emulation, or may be incompatible?

    Hi,

No sorry that is not my thread, but I am sure there are some of mine out there complaining about similar issues lol.

But I spoke to a WD tech support rep this afternoon. He too believes the x86 Driver in WD Discovery is failing to install on my Surface Pro X; and that there are no ARM64 Drivers that WD Discovery available to install, hence the problem at hand. As you said, Drivers can't be emulated.

I'll go out on a limb and assume that JRiver Media Center 27 has no ARM64 Driver either.

Except what is odd about this software, is that I had it working on my Surface Pro X before I wiped it clean.

And native Win 10 Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps were working before the wipe as well.

That's what is making this whole problem I am having so odd.

    Appreciate the help and replies.

I guess I am out of luck.

I have workarounds for my issues, but it's just so frustrating not being able to solve the problem either myself or with help from you and the other nice folks on this board.

    Best Regards,

    Robert

This was not true for me at all.

I used the new preview build exactly because certain apps won't work on ARM based machines, but thanks to the new emulation functionality in the new preview build, would indeed work, they said.

    They lied.

WD Discovery app, still won't install.

Netflix and Prime Video install but won't work.

    Why is this happening?

    I tried everything.

    Any ideas.

I think the Surface Pro X is an excellent machine.

When it works for certain apps.

Hahahahha noooo. Its crazy people don't know this. X86 exists for almost every app. I was terrified at first until u realised x86 is always an option next to x64 most of the time. Its 100% compatable with x86 im using a F.L STUDIO AND PRESONUS STUDIO ONE 5.1 RIGHT NOW AND IT REQUIRES NO EMULATION .. well tye emulation is prebuilt in i believe.

To add to what Marrion said, the main thing to watch out for with x86 emulated apps is ones that install a driver of some sort. Drivers have to be ARM. VPNs and multi-function printer applications are example of things that may not work. Otherwise yes, you currently need to just make sure it's compatible with 32-bit Windows 10 like you say.
