How can I get the option to turn Smart Charging off? Battery & charging does not appear in app

I'm trying to turn off my smart charging but the "Smart Charging" dropdown menu isn't popping up. I always charge my laptop on my desk and always have it connected so I can use it the next day. I understand that smart charging turns on automatically, but I also know that there is a way to turn it off through the Surface app, but it isn't showing up.

How can I get the option to turn Smart Charging off?

Thanks

Thank you for reporting this issue. We are actively investigating. While we are investigating and if the "Battery & charging" option is missing in the Surface app, please update the Surface app to newest version 74.8150.129.0 or later which is available in the Microsoft Store app. To update the Surface app, open the Microsoft Store app, select Downloads, select Get Updates.

If you still are not able to see the "Battery & charging" option and you are running version 74.8150.129.0 or later, try to reset the Surface app by clicking the Windows Start menu, click Settings. Within Windows Settings, click Apps, click Installed apps and then for the Surface app click "...", select Advanced options, click the Reset button in the Reset section.

Marking as "Answered" to raise visibility while we are investigating.

    Hi Lavenia,

Thank you so much for the information. I pressed the reset button in settings for the surface app and I can now see the Smart Charging option.

Edit: This is under Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Then select Advanced options > Reset.

    Thank you!!

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I am aware of the problem you're experiencing with your Surface device in which the option to disable smart charging is not showing in the Surface app. I am here to help and let us work on this together.

    Let’s troubleshoot this issue together:

    1. Update the Surface App: First, ensure that your Surface app is up to date.
    2. Check for Surface Drivers’ Health:
      • Within the Surface app, look for an option related to Surface drivers. Verify the health of your Surface drivers. Sometimes, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues.
    3. Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit: See Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com).
    4. Install Windows Updates:
      • Make sure all Windows updates are installed. Go to Windows Settings and check for any pending updates, including optional ones.
    5. If none of those works, reinstall the Surface app.

To disable Smart Charging on your Surface device, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Surface App.
    2. Navigate to Smart Charging: Once the app is open, look for the Smart Charging option. It should be under a relevant section.
    3. Pause Smart Charging: Select the Smart Charging option and choose “Pause”. This action will temporarily disable Smart Charging, allowing your device to charge up to 100% when needed.

Remember that Smart Charging will automatically turn on again based on your battery use patterns. If you need a full battery, pause Smart Charging several hours before you require it. It may take a few days before Smart Charging limits your battery capacity to 80% again.

For more details, see Smart charging on Surface - Microsoft Support.

I hope the provided solution works for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

I have the exact same problem. I have done all the steps above, but still don't see the Smart Charging in front.

How can I make the Smart Charging menu appear again or is there another way of turning Smart Charging Off.

I go from reunion to reunion and need my Surface to be at 100% battery, but this fault (because if it is suppose to appear and it's not, then is a fault) won't let me.
