I use Surface Pro 3 and it has Power button Problem after used 3 years. I need to press the power very very very hard to make it start. This is so annoying So I break the plastic cover and now I can easy press the switch module directly to start my surface.

The charger that came with the sp7 stopped working 2 months after Ii first started using my sp7, Ive been charging via USB c.

I tried those troubleshooting steps you mentioned but to no avail.

Right now I took off the screen to check to see if any component on the motherboard were damage or burnt and no everything looks good.

How do I hot wire the motherboard to turn it on? please help

    Hello dan,

Thank you so much for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern to us, and I understand the need to access and turn on your Surface Pro 7 especially that you have all your important documents in there. You got me here; we'll isolate this issue together. Before anything else, allow me to ask a question:

    • Were you able to plug in the power supply of your device? If so, is there a steady white light on its tip?

If any case there is no white steady light on its tip, the power supply may be defective, and your device may be out of battery life. However, if the power supply does have a white steady light on its tip, the problem is within your Surface Pro 7. Here are some steps you may to fix the issue:

    1. Force your device to restart. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and release once Windows Logo appears on screen.
    2. Wake your Surface with hot keys. Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B.
    3. Try detaching all peripherals connected to your device such as keyboard, mouse, USB drives, etc.
    4. If any case you have a different power supply, try using it and see how it goes. Make sure it is properly connected.

Please let me know how it goes and hopefully it helps!

    Best regards,

    Rolando S.
