How can I get a replacement key for my Surface Pro 7 Type Pad

Hi,

The left shift key on my Surface Pro 7 Type Cover has somehow cracked and come off, so I need a replacement;

I can't find any reliable-looking suppliers, and can't find anything helpful on Microsoft's Support website.

Can anyone advise me where I can buy a replacement key?

Thanks,

Rick

    Hi,

I’ve just called Microsoft support, and they were totally unhelpful.

Apparently Microsoft don’t make replacement keys available and I was advised to request a £200 exchange for a refurbished type cover or buy a new one for £150.

I pointed out this was completely unreasonable for such a delicate device that is bound to get damaged on occasion, that replacement keys for previous generations were available, and asked where I could complain about the situation. I was given a shortcut URL address which pointed me to a European Union website!

I’ll never be buying anything from Microsoft again.

    Hi Barb,

Thanks for your reply; I had a look at that website, but the keys they’re offering are for the Surface Pro 6 type cover, and they aren’t available in colours to match the Surface Pro 7 type covers.

I’ll probably get one anyway as (see my reply above) it looks like Microsoft simply don’t make the version 7 keys available and want to rip me off for a £150 replacement type cover instead.

Really disappointed in how Microsoft are approaching this, and I won’t be buying their products again,

    Thankyou anyway!

    Rick

the typecovers just have different colors but mechanically the keys are the same. it just looks like they aren't making the keys in some of the newest colors. This company has some of the other colors Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Replacement Keyboard Keys (quikfixlaptopkeys.com) but I don't see reviews either good or bad, but for $9 might be worth a try if they have your color.

Wish I could offer more.. Good luck (and please DO mark my reply as answer if it helped).

I know people have had success with this company Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Replacement Keyboard Keys (replacementlaptopkeys.com) - and this is a whole lot cheaper than if you need a new typecover and are out of warranty.

    Hi Barb,

Thanks again for another helpful suggestion - I had a look at that link too, and I agree, I'd be happy to give that a try at $8 for a key vs. £150 for a new keyboard. But unfortunately those Surface Pro 5 keys aren't available in the same colour as my Surface Pro 7 type cover (charcoal) either!

I'm still astonished Microsoft can't or won't offer a reasonable solution to this, but thankyou for doing what you can to suggest ideas,

    Best regards,

    Rick
