My Surface Pro 6 kickstand broke also. One hinge broke so I took the other one out to compare. The base on the hinge was broken so there was no use trying to repair it.
After searching through Microsoft support I quickly realized that $300 seemed to be the going rate so I:
- Removed the broken hinge with a T5 Torx screwdriver.
- Laid the kickstand flat against the Surface Pro.
- Duct taped the length of it tightly.
- Opened the kickstand fully.
- Duct Taped the length of it tightly.
It is working very smoothly. Cheap fix and should last the life of the tablet.
