New Surface Laptop 5 - touch screen stops working when using Surface pen and Surface slim pen 2

Touch screen randomly stops working when using Surface pens (original pen and the recent Surface slim pen 2) on apps like Onenote, Popwerpoint, Excel (MS Office 365). I tested on both i5 and i7 models of Surface Laptop 5 (16gb RAM, 512gb SSD, 13inch models), so I think it's the issue of these Surface laptop 5 line. Touch screen works again after rebooting. Touch screen works fine with fingers without any issue so far.

I confirm that all Windows updates and Surface firmwares are up to date.

How can I fix this?

    Hello,

I tested on Surface Laptop 5 15inch model with my slim pen 2 which works fine on my Surface pro 3. The touch sreen stopped working after some drawing. I am now 99% sure that the entire Surface Laptop 5 lines have this compatibility issue with stylus including Surface Slim Pen 2. Could you please report this issue to SL development team that SL5 lines are NOT compatible with Surface Pens (or any stylus)?? I think this is serious issue.

    Hi,

Just chiming in to say I am experiencing the exact same problem. Brand new Surface Laptop 5, touch screen works fine with finger gestures, no problem. But I just used my Surface Pen (an older one, came with my Surface Pro 4) with it for a few hours and twice, the touch screen randomly stopped responding to either pen or touch input, while I was using my pen. The touch screen works again after a reboot. I went through the troubleshooting steps, the touch screen works fine in UEFI mode. I can't get it to stop working again unless I use the pen with it. I have checked for Windows or firmware updates, and it says my device is up to date.

Can someone please look into this?

By accident today I found out that my pen works fine (most of the time) on the SL5 when it's NOT charging.

When the charging cable is plugged in, the problems come back. Really bizarre.

Microsoft, PLEASE get your act together and fix this asap!

Unfortunately, my daughter is still having to live with this issue as there have been no Windows updates that have corrected this.

I am also experiencing the same identical issue to the two users above. The touchscreen will become completely non-functional after about 2/3 minutes of using the pen in OneNote or Whiteboard. If I close the computer or restart it, the issue is solved but then comes back again after a short period of time.

Reboots and reinstalling drivers did not permanently fix the issue. This computer was advertised as compatible with surface pens but that seems to not be the case.
