Hello, gerald gathuki.
Welcome to Microsoft Community!
I understand that you want to activate facial recognition as well as fingerprint unlocking for your Surface Pro 5. Allow me to share the following information with you:
Surface Pro 5 has Windows Hello facial recognition:

Typically, this is how we would set it up to activate face unlocking:
1. Open Settings:
- Click on the “Start” button, then select the gear icon for “Settings.”
2. Go to Accounts Settings:
- In the Settings window, click on “Accounts.”
3. Select Sign-In Options:
- In the left-hand menu, select “Sign-in options.”
4. Set Up Windows Hello Facial Recognition:
- In the “Windows Hello Face” section, click on the “Set up” button.
- If you haven’t set up a PIN, the system will prompt you to create one first.
5. Complete Facial Recognition Setup:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your face to register your facial information.
- Make sure your face is clearly visible and at an appropriate distance from the camera during the scan.
6. Test Facial Recognition:
- Once the setup is complete, you can lock your screen or log out, and then try logging in using facial recognition.
After completing these steps, you should be able to quickly log in to your Surface Pro 5 using the facial recognition feature. If you encounter any issues during the process, ensure that the camera is unobstructed and that the lighting is suitable.
For fingerprint unlocking, we need to use a Surface keyboard that is equipped with fingerprint recognition (e.g. Surface Pro Signature Type Cover), then you can unlock the device with your fingerprint.
We can use similar steps to set the options for fingerprint unlocking.
These are some of the information I can share with you at this time. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any doubts during the setup process.
I wish you all the best.
Best Regards.
