Using the pen as a mouse

I purchased a Surface Pro 7 and primarily use One Note. I have become accustomed to using my Samsung for One Note and used the stylus like a mouse. However, I microsoft seems to be forcing the drawing feature instead and this doesn't work for me. I have read the thread and tried the fixes to no avail. Please provide a way to use the pen as a mouse. Otherwise, this is a deal breaker and I will return my surface.

Your suggestion doesn't work in the MS One Note application.

I have also read other threads in which surface owners have been searching like me but to no avail.

One person mentions that the ipad version recognizes the pen as a mouse.

And also the online version of MS One Note.

This is really disappointing as I had assumed that the feature would work on MS applications.

Please provide a solution if there is one or develop a fix.

    Hello Danny Boy1,

Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community and posting your concern here.

You can actually set the Surface Pen to act as a mouse on your Surface device by following these steps:

    • Open Settings, and select Devices icon.
    • Go to Pen & Windows Ink, then you will have an option to check (ON) or uncheck (OFF-Default) Allow my pen to act as mouse in legacy options. If you check the option, the pen should be able to act as a mouse to limited applications.

If this answers your question, please let our Community know by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Best regards,

    StevenK
