I need to replace the battery in my Surface pro 4. I see many on EBay but have been told most are dodgy & not to use them. Does anyone know of somewhere to get one that will do the job & not die or cause problems after a while? but at a reasonable price.

thanks for the reply, but I just would just like to know where to get a genuine battery for it. I am prepared to replace it myself. The warranty is well out of date & some of the charges for out of warranty service are way too much. The unit would not be worth that.
How long have you had your SP4? If it is less than 3 years you might consider placing a support call to Microsoft. During the online service request process, you find out if your Surface is under warranty. If it’s out of warranty, you may need to pay a service fee.
How to get service for Surface
So I am not sure I would replace my battery on my SP4 only because when I looked the the process on a video I felt my chance of being able to do it correctly (and easily) was very low. If you are adept at that sort of thing then you can get batteries online but how good they are is something I cannot comment on.
It may be time for a new replacement or send it in for a refurbished one. They do not repair surface devices so check out the links below.
They all talk about replacement options (not particularly on your issue but I believe it still applies. Worth looking at IMHO
