Suggestions for Portable Monitor for 7th Edition Microsoft Surface Laptop

Hey Microsoft Community!

I currently have (and love) the 7th Edition Microsoft Surface Laptop. Running Windows 11 Home; 16 GB RAM; Snapdragon(R) x 12-core. I need a portable monitor for my office (or something of that nature).

The basic purpose is so I can have an extra screen that is somewhat stationary so I can view multiple documents at once. I'd like for it to be touchscreen and for it to seamlessly connect to my Surface Laptop. I don't want anything huge and definitely don't need a curved screen. I'm not gaming or watching hi-rez videos, so I don't need anything fancy. And I would like to spend less than $500 if possible.

I looked into just getting an extra monitor, and had almost decided on this MINIX from Best Buy for $200.00 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/minix-16-portable-monitor-1200p-fhd-ips-screen-100-srgb-hdmi-laptop-monitor-compatible-with-pc-mac-phone-xbox-switch-sf16t-touch-edition/6609211.p?skuId=6609211 But then after looking on Amazon, I saw that some of the Surface Pros and Surface Gos weren't that much more and could be more versatile. However, they were generally smaller and I think a 10 inch or 12 inch is way too small.

So, does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!

From pricing stand point, I can see why you ask about this.

Surface Pro or Go's port is not for video input, but for output, so that route is not going to work.

But you can use wireless display instead if both devices connect to the same Wifi - meaning if you work offline, the second Surface won't be detected as monitor you can cast to. By going this route, the display can experience latency compared to the wired method.

Thanks so much! What do you think about using a Surface Pro or Go instead of just a monitor? Support wouldn't be an issue at that point.

    Hello,

Your Surface model doesn't necessarily dictate the external screen you can get - all it matters is to make sure you have the port needed for the monitor. The one you found on Best Buy requires an HDMI port, which can be an issue because your Surface doesn't have HDMI port, unless you have a docking station as the go between. You will need to find one that can support video signal via USB-C port.

I've gone through several portable monitors myself. Two via Amazon some random brands. They didn't last for long and support was like non-exist. I ended up with the Dell Portable Monitor P1424H. It uses USB-C connection, but it doesn't have touch screen, it has its own stand and it is super light weight. Most important, it has been several years in and it is still working well. So, if touch screen is not something you must have, I do recommend that one.
