Surface laptop - only power button works on keyboard

Hi,

The only button working on the keyboard is the power key. The touchpad is responsive.

So far I have

  • Used the troubleshoot option in settings with no issue identified
  • Updated drivers
  • Gone into settings and uninstalled, reinstalled keyboard
  • Reset the laptop back to original.

It just happened, I don't recall I had done anything unusual on the previous use before the keyboard stopped responding

Is there anything else that I should consider before I take it in to a service centre?

    Hello MagsR,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear that your keyboard stopped working. Definitely not the experience to have with.

Anyhow, I appreciate your time and effort in trying to isolate the issue on your end. It's just unfortunate that it did not fix the problem. With that being said, it looks like this is a potential hardware failure. To confirm, let's check if your keyboard works or not in UEFI as well. You can load the UEFI firmware settings menu through Windows. To do this:

    1. Select StartSettings > Update & security > Recovery.
    2. Under Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
    3. Under Choose an option, select TroubleshootAdvanced OptionsUEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.

Once you're in the UEFI, press the arrow keys to navigate the panel, and let me know if it works or not.

    I'll wait for your response.

    Regards,

    StevenK

    That's great to know, MagsR.

Glad that everything is working now. It would also be better if you would help our Community who may have the same concern as you know by marking my suggestions as an answer.

    Best wishes,

    StevenK

I was able to that. I recall seeing this screen in a power off restart that i tried.

    Mags

Just to confirm, did the keyboard work in the UEFI environment?
