This is incorrect. There is no where at surface.com or on the Microsoft support website that allows you to search for model based on serial number. I've been going in circles for an hour, have signed into my Microsoft account 6 times, and still can't find anywhere to enter a serial number.

    Go to this page https://mybusinessservice.surface.com/

Enter your Surface serial # then you will get the model and warranty status. This is what I got for my Surface (I replaced the S/N with stars):

Surface Laptop 3 - 13.5 in. i5/8/256 Device Serial Number:  **********Standard Warranty:  Expired

That link was the second link ChristopherCol posted in his reply.

    Hi TCPC Florida

We appreciate your post on Microsoft Community. You can find the model number of your Surface tablet using the serial number by visiting theMicrosoft Surface Support website or your Microsoft account and entering the serial number in the "Check Your Service and Support Coverage" section. The website will display the model number of your Surface tablet along with other details such as warranty information and support options.

You can also go to Check Warranty Page - ROBO SelfServe Portal (surface.com) and enter the serial number and you will see what device you have.

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft. Hope this helps!

    Kind regards

    Christopher.

    Hi ChristopherCol,

Thanks for posting this advice. It's quite difficult to find any advice on how to look up Surface Device information in this type of situation. I'm looking for a second-hand surface laptop by example, and really just want to find as much contextual information (e.g. approx age, generation, and capabilities in respect of things like Windows 11 compatability, in addition to warranty status) as I can, before I make a purchase.

Additional information such as above would provide a lot more confidence for people in such situations. MS unlikely to care much obviously, but in my view, suppporting the 2nd hand purchasing community to make informed decisions would surely also support people wishing to upgrade their devices with new ones more frequently also?

Please note: I tried to upload an image of what information was provided in my example, and there's a message aboive saying image loaded successsfully, but I can't see it.

    Thanks for your assistance

    Kind regards,

    Shaun
