On my Surface Pro 6 my keyboard and trackpad do not work

I turned on my computer and my keyboard and trackpad are not working. Only the touch screen works. I tried: 1. To restart the device by going to UEGI and restating 2. I tried to check and update the Driver. But still no luck. I can use touch screen but for my work it makes it much easier if I can use my keyboard and trackpad. Not sure what else to do.

    Hey Rolando,

I tried some of your suggestions. I restarted my computer. I ran the surface diagnosis and it showed that the keyboard did not work. I tried options 5 and 6 (I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers). I tried to get to the UEFI but I couldn't access it. So my problem is still here. I still can't use my keyboard or TouchPad.

Same for me. Stopped working sometime during Mar 2024.

If you found a solution, please let us know. Thanks!

    Hello Mike,

Thank you so much for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern and I understand that you're having issues with your Surface Keyboard.

You got me here; we'll definitely sort this out together. Before anything else, allow me to ask a question:

    • When your Surface booted to UEFI, does the keyboard works there or not?

For now, let us do some other troubleshooting steps that could help us to isolate this issue:

    1. Check for Windows Update. Go to Settings >> Update and Recovery >> Windows Update >> Check for Updates >> Install >> Restart.
    2. Disconnect and reconnect the keyboard.
    3. Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Apps
    4. reinstall keyboard driver. Go to Device Manager >> Keyboard >> double click the keyboard driver or long press >> Select Uninstall >> Restart.
    5. Check if it has been disabled. Go to Device Manager >> Keyboard >> double click the keyboard driver or long press >> if the option says enable, that means keyboard is disabled >> click enable.
    6. Download Drivers and Firmware: Download Surface Pro 6 Drivers and Firmware. from Official Microsoft Download Center
    7. Boot your Surface to UEFI again and see if the keyboard works there. If any case it works, there is a software issue that can be solved by resetting the Surface. See this link for the steps: Restore or reset Surface for Windows - Microsoft Support

On the other hand, if the issue persists in UEFI, there is likely a hardware issue of it that the best thing to do is to create a replacement/repair order to it. However, when it comes to this kind of issue, this is already beyond of our scope as we don't have the necessary tools for that. The best I could do is to refer you to our live supports, to contact them, see steps below:

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support
    2. Choose how you would like to get support for your Surface device.3. Type in the problem you need help with.4. Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support. Here is a link you can check to know a detailed guide in reaching our live support: How to get Phone and Chat Support (for Surface Home/Consumer - Microsoft CommunityI wish you all the best and hopefully this helps!Regards,Rolando S.
