2019-12-16T23:41:48+00:00 Hi LoganDooley,
May we ask if the touch input using your finger is also not working on those areas where the pen is not working? If yes, please try to boot the device to the UEFI screen and check if issue persist on that screen.
Boot device to UEFI screen:
Press and hold Shift key on the keyboard then go to the Power icon and choose Restart.
(Keep holding the Shift key until you have the "Choose an option" screen.)
Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart Now
Once you are in the UEFI screen, please try to check if the pen or touch input is still not working on those areas of the screen.
After checking, choose Exit on the left side of the screen and hit Restart.
If issue is not present on the UEFI screen or you could not identify if issue was present on the UEFI screen (considering that there are just few options that you can click on that screen), we recommend that you proceed in doing a Reset on the device using USB Recovery Image. This option will reimage the entire device and reload Windows including the drivers and firmware. It is the most complete form of Reset and it will wipe out everything on the device so you might need to back up your files first. You will need also a 16GB/32GB of flash drive that must be formatted into FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image. If you like to try, you can follow the steps provided below.
How to Download, Create and Use a USB recovery drive
To download the Recovery Image:
- You'll need a PC running Windows 7 or later or Surface Device.
- Visit the page to Download the recovery image for your Surface
- Sign in with your Microsoft Account
- From the list of Surface devices available, select the device that you need a recovery image for
Please note that while you will only be presented with devices that are currently registered on your account, you will also be presented with the option to get an image for a different type of device. If you try to use this option, you will be prompted to enter the serial number for that device 4. Download the recovery image using the button on the page 5. When the download bar pops up at the bottom of your screen, save the file in a location you will be able to find it.
Format USB Drive:
- Note: Formatting a recovery drive will erase anything that is already stored on your USB drive. Make sure to transfer any important data from your USB drive to another storage device before using it to create a Surface USB recovery drive.
- Insert your USB drive into the USB port of your PC.
- From the desktop, open File Explorer
- Tap and hold or right-click on the USB drive and choose Format
- Select FAT32 as the file system and enter a Volume label to name the USB drive, such as RECOVERY, and then tap or click Start
- Tap or click OK to erase the contents of the USB drive
- Tap or click OK when the format is complete
Create a recovery drive:
- On your Surface or PC, open recovery image that you downloaded by double-clicking it or right click then select Extract and then Extract all.
- Select the USB drive you formatted earlier for the location and click Extract.
Use a USB recovery drive to reset your Surface:
- Shutdown the Surface
- Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port
- Press and hold the volume-down (-) rocker
- Press and release the power button
- When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down (-) rocker
- Surface will start the recovery software on the USB recovery drive
- When prompted, choose your language options and keyboard layout
- Select Troubleshoot
- Select Recover from a Drive. Choose Remove Everything and Fully Clean the Drive. Recovering this PC.
- If prompted, select Repartition the drives
- If prompted for BitLocker Key, tap Skip this Drive

2019-12-16T20:09:11+00:00 Hello LoganDooley ,
Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We really appreciate all the efforts that you did just to possibly resolve the issue.
Try this:
Method 1:
· Go to Human Interface Devices
· Expand **Human Interface Devices,**and Right-click HID-Compliant Touch Screen
· Right-click on HID-Compliant Touch Screenand select Uninstall.
· If there is more than one driver, uninstall those as well.
· Restart the Surface after uninstalling both drivers.
Method 2:
· On your Surface, select the Start button, then select Settings> Devices> Bluetooth & other devices.
· Make sure Bluetooth is on, then select Add Bluetooth or other device> Bluetooth. Choose Surface Penin the list of devices. Follow any other instructions if they appear, then select Done.
Method 3:
· To make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware please go to Download drivers and firmware for Surfaceand download the .msi file.
· If there's not an .msi file that corresponds to the build of Windows 10 you have installed, select the .msi file that's closest to your build number.
· To find out which version and build of Windows you're using, select Start >Settings > System > About, then look under Windows Specifications to find your operating system version and OS build number.
· Restart the Surface Twice to apply the changes.
Method 4:
· Run **Surface Diagnostic Toolkit**. It is a self-healing tool which looks for potential issues and fixes them, as well as ensures your device is completely up to date.
Method 5:
· Test your Surface Pen to another Surface Device or test another Surface Pen on your Surface Pro 6. If same issue is happening on another Surface Device and other Pen works well on your Surface Pro 6 it is possible your Surface Pen is defective. You can contact Supportto have it replaced. If your Pen works well on another Surface Device then there might be a problem with your Surface Pro 6. I suggest a Recovery Imageto see if that helps. If issue persist, please contact Supportto have it replaced or visit Microsoft Storeif there is one near you.
Please keep us posted.
Regards,
Jonas_T
