Windows 11 font size change cannot be retained

Hi,

on my surface pro 8 with Windows 11 pro 64bit, due to the high resolution, the default font is too small for me. However, I am reluctant to change scaling since it will make everything else big. So I went to Settings -> Accessibility -> Text size and adjusted the font size, to say 150%. It worked until I restarted the PC (sometimes until I restarted the PC a couple of times). The font becomes very small again although the setting at Accessibility -> Text size is still at 150%. It seems that Accessibility -> Text size does not work well. It is very annoying as I had to readjust the text size pretty much every time I restarted the PC. I would like to hear any solutions for this weird issue.

I am also wondering when Microsoft will bring the animation effect back when using keyboard shortcuts to switch between different desktops. Currently, the animation effect is only available when using finger gestures to switch desktops.

It is too bad that Windows 11 is still buggy even though it has been released for some time. I am glad I did not upgrade my other surface pro PCs from Windows 10 to 11. Windows 10 does not have any of these issues.

Paul.

Just to follow up on what I said above. I confirm that the issue is still there and the suggested methods do not solve the problem. It appears that the changed font size stays unchanged until the Surface Pro is connected to an external monitor.

    Hi Marrion,

thanks for the detailed response. I followed your method 1 to scan and repair any corrupted system files and the program did find two corrupted files and repaired them. For method 2, I checked the driver and it is already at its latest version, for method 3, I didn't find any suspicious programs that may affect text size (I only have a very few handful of programs that are not disabled). The system also updates automatically whenever there is a new update from Windows. I will see whether method 1 solved the issue or not. This may take a couple of days as the issue does not always come back right after reboot. I need to wait for a couple of days to confirm whether it is solved or not.

Regarding the animation effect when switching between desktops using keyboard shortcuts, other users reported the same complaints. What is really annoying with Windows in recent versions is that its newer version often stops some very useful features of an older version, such as the animation effect and ribbons in Windows Explorer.

    Hi Yingwei Peng,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having issues with the text size on your Surface Pro 8 with Windows 11 Pro 64bit and how frustrating it can be when the settings do not work as expected.

There are a few possible causes for this problem, such as a corrupted system file, a conflicting third-party application, or a faulty display driver. To troubleshoot this issue, please follow these steps:

    1. Run the System File Checker tool to scan and repair any corrupted system files. To do this, open the Start menu and type "cmd". Right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator". In the command prompt window, type "sfc /scannow" and press Enter. Wait for the scan to complete and then restart your PC.
    2. Check if there are any updates available for your display driver. To do this, open the Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X and selecting Device Manager from the menu. Expand the Display adapters category and right-click on your display driver. Select Update driver and follow the instructions on the screen. Restart your PC after the update.
    3. Disable any third-party applications that may interfere with the text size settings. To do this, open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Click on the Startup tab and disable any applications that are not essential for your PC. Restart your PC and check if the text size settings are working properly.

If none of these steps resolve your issue, please let me know and I will assist you further. You can also refer to this article for more information: Change the size of text in Windows - Microsoft Support

Additionally, please make sure also that the device is up to date by installing all available updates in Windows Settings > Windows Updates including Optional updates. Check also for the Surface drivers' health through the Surface app and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to run some system checks and repairs. See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

As for your question about the animation effect when switching between desktops using keyboard shortcuts, I'm afraid that this feature is not available in Windows 11 at the moment. However, we appreciate your feedback, and we will forward it to our development team for consideration in future updates. I suggest also that you keep your Surface Pro 8 up to date with the latest Windows updates as Microsoft is constantly working on improving the user experience and adding new features.

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Surface and have a great day.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion
