I realize you're not responsible for peoples advertising, nor even Microsoft's for that case; but, if one doesn't report things like this.. the nomenclature is such that even stores get it wrong and even Microsoft in it's own store doesn't clarify nor attempt to resolve the issue. At least I can "TRY" to make the "signature" company and others aware of how to tell the difference... then it's all I can do as a consumer. I've already wasted enough of my and your and others time for a problem none of us can solve. It only remains to be seen if Microsoft will address the issue.
These posts, at least, one day will become available for searching and provide answers where none previously existed. As for my questions. This answers very specifically the information I could not find through a concerted effort. So, thank you for this. My Surface came yesterday; and so far, all said; I think it's a pretty nice product. The "tablet"/"computer"/"laptop" specifically. As for the "keyboard"/"cover". Too bad I had to "settle" for a off brand product that fortunately for me and any others who are looking, very specifically stated that it works with the 7. When I began, I truly wanted something state of the art and Microsoft brand specific as well as aesthetic looks (Ironically, it won't work with my machine). Even that wasn't clear; and if I'd been smart I would have waited... or bought something I didn't want. (Either way, I lose) However, the reviews of the device itself are pretty clear this was the one to buy, negative comments aside. I'm happy, so far with the device. But for the cover/keyboard... the one overwhelming feature for me was material, the color and the pen charging station. Sadly, all of which could have been made available for all the device "covers" and "keyboards".
Using the device, one thing I have to point out is that clearly the OS doesn't handle operation of the device with the fingers... the OS clearly can't handle clicks of virtual buttons, apparently the "surface" of my fingers isn't small enough for it to determine where exactly I'm trying to click, Reviewers state the pen will remedy that. (I'm waiting for mine to arrive.) Rumors are that Windows 11 "may" handle this issue. Fingers crossed. X
If I can't complain to Microsoft, and, in a location where I expect to find "Answers", and specifically indirectly to the company that can take the feedback and retroactively begin to fix the source of the confusion... it seems like the problem is something everyone is destined to continue suffering from.
I too am an unpaid volunteer who has, in my retirement, chosen to resolve not only issues I encounter; but, I attempt to reach the source and solve the problem. I measure performance by the number of manhours I spend, not attempting, but, resolving the issue vs the number of man hours consumers will waste trying to work around the issue. Sadly, this issue is still unresolved; but, at least there's one more source of information. However, if the parent of the product won't address the issue itself. How else can it be resolved. I realize it's not your department; but, you're closer to the source parent than I am... this problem needs to be addressed... If the sales of the device fail to perform, and Microsoft fails to provide the kind of information that will drive sales; Microsoft has no one else to blame for their failure.
Unfortunately I am unable to mark your response as "The Answer". I feel your response completely addresses this specific issue with enough information that perhaps a few more people won't have the same problem I did. For this I thank you very much. :-) What happened to the "Mark this answer as correct?" From my experience; perhaps too many people who shouldn't mark the answers correct, marked their own work as the answer. Thus, defeating the purpose; but one shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Hello Microsoft, someone who can address this issue... Knock Knock Knock... are you there?
