Surface Pro 3 - No sound card found

Hey everyone!

My Surface Pro 3 which was working perfectly fine still, suddenly had audio issues. The little speaker symbol in the taskbar now has been joined by a red cross,.

I've already tried removing audio, and even the display drivers and rebooting the PC, several times, but nothing so far has helped. I have however found out that the issue is that the SP3 claims there's no sound card installed.

I really need it to work by the end of this week, cause I have a week of video-conferencing coming up!

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? A reset/recovery is really not an option for me, unfortunately.

Boot to the UEFI and disable and then enable On-board audio. See How to Configure Surface Pro 3 UEFI/BIOS Settings | SurfaceTip item 6.

If device manager does not list Realtek High Definition Audio under Sound Devices after doing this, then this is a hardware issue. If it IS listed, please check all the tabs for it under device manager and provide the error code and any other information shown.

Where exactly are you seeing "SP3 claims there's no sound card installed"??

Try the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4037239/surface-fix-common-surface-problems-using-surface-diagnostic-toolkit which can often fix most software and driver issues.

Thanks! Relieved it's not a hardware issue, so then let's see how to resolve it. Realtek High Definition Audio is listed under Sound Devices, but the Intel Display Audio device appears as 'hidden' in device management, as is 'trusted Microsoft audio drivers', and "high-definition audio drivers' under system devices.

There's no devices shown with errors/yellow warning signs, in the entire device manager list, so I don't have an error code.
