NOTE: This is NOT an official fix by Microsoft

So, here is a fix for the Surface Pro 4 Screen flickering issue.

It might seem ridiculous, but according to 2 other people, and myself, this has worked.

Please continue at your own risk.

What we are going to go is make your time at the bottom right show with the seconds displayed. Somehow, this works.

Here are the steps:

  1. Press the Win Key + R at the same time
  2. Type:
    regedit
  3. Go into this directory:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  4. Right click on the advanced folder
  5. New
  6. DWORD 32 bit
  7. Name it:
    ShowSecondsInSystemClock
  8. Double click on what you just made and change the value to 1.
  9. Press OK
  10. Restart the device
  11. Hopefully the issue is fixed - Let me know below :)

Thanks!

If this helped you, it would mean a lot to me if you could press the "yes" button below to indicate that this helped you.

Also, please reply below to let me know!

Another Surface Pro 4 owner here experiencing the screen flickering. This issue remains unresolved despite attempting Microsoft's solutions and this registry hack.

    Very disappointed.

The key is whether or not flickering occurs in the UEFI.

See Screen Flickering and Ghosting - Microsoft Community where I posted, in part:

There are several flavors of screen flickering/shaking being reported. Customers

who exchange their SP4's report that the exchanged refurbs start flickering as

    well.

"If you have flickering/shaking when you boot to the UEFI, this is a hardware

issue. Wait until your SP4 is flickering if it doesn't do it constantly and then

    access the UEFI to verify:

The UEFI settings can be adjusted only during system startup. To load the UEFI

    firmware settings menu:

    1. Shut down your Surface.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same

time, press and release the power button.

    1. When you see the Surface logo, release the volume-up button.

The UEFI menu will display within a few seconds.

If no issue in the UEFI, there is one flavor that MAY have a work around but it

may not work for your case.

When flickering starts, immediately boot to the UEFI, if the flickering still appears in the UEFI, then the add seconds to clock fix won't solve the issue. This is well known.

if the screen flickers whilst in the UEFI then it's a Hardware problem

    Correct.
