Hi, I have noticed that my Surface Laptop will randomly make a click noise while I am using it. I also notice that when I pick it up it makes a similar click noise. I also hear it every single time I open up the laptop. I found a few other people had the same problem, here is the link to their threads:

It should definitely last longer. I switched the device because of color and pricing- so i was able to compare the two surface laptops (3). Both make a clicking sound when you press on the area where the palms rest, or when you pick it up - i guess its the aluminum body.

as for the clicking sound when opening it: i honestly think its the same thing- the aluminum and sometimes it makes that noise

    Hi Team,

I am experiencing the same issue - my company got this laptop for me a couple of months ago and the hinge started making the clicking sound after a month.

I just got of the phone with Microsoft support (UK) and was told that the only way forward was for me to send the laptop back and get a refurbished one. If the laptop was dropped the company might have to pay for the exchange if not it would be free. I haven't damaged the machine in any way so not worried about additional payment but the fact that the laptop must be exchanged with a 2nd hand machine despite the issue having nothing to do with me is a bit strange. Also for this to happen I have to send the laptop back and will receive the "replacement" in 5-8 working days. This is not a personal laptop - am I supposed to take a week off ?

Can you please confirm this is the case as it sounds a bit unorthodox ?

I can provide the laptop serial number if need be.

    Regards,

    Anton

I called them up but it never actually got to a person to speak to as my product is just out of warranty. What should I do about it, considering this laptop should last more than just over a year.

    Hi JoshO'Shea,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community. We are sorry to hear about what happen to your Surface Laptop.

The clicking sound on the device from the hinge part is not normal and it seems that it is already a hardware issue. We suggest that you contact for support to check on the options for replacement of your Surface Laptop.

    Please keep us posted...

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.
