How to remove a stuck battery from a Surface Pen?

I've had a Surface Pen (the one that came with my Surface Pro 4) since November 2016 and it's mostly worked well. But I've just tried to remove the battery and it's stuck. I've changed the battery a few times before without issue, but this one just won't budge. I've tried slightly bending the pen in case it's stuck for that reason, but that's not worked. I can't see a way to push the battery through from the nib end of the pen since I can't see how to remove the nib.

You can try a plastic rod with a drop of super glue on the end of it.

Chances are, it will not come out (battery swollen).  I had one that did that and ended up throwing the pen away.

DO NOT try to remove the nib and push a pen through to get the battery out.  Will not work since the electronics for the pen are in that location (between nib and battery).
