Hi Ravindra jadhav,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're having trouble with your Surface Pro X keyboard. I am here to help you and let us work on this together.

There could be several reasons why your Surface Pro X keyboard is not working, the keyboard may not be properly connected to the Surface Pro X. Or Outdated or Faulty Drivers: The drivers for the keyboard might be outdated or faulty. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Detach the Type Cover or Keyboard

  1. Unplug your Surface and detach the Cover.
  2. Make sure there's no debris, damage or anything that may inhibit a connection.

Force your Surface to restart

  1. Select StartPowerShut downand wait for your Surface to shut down.
  2. Now, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. If you see the logo screen appear after a few seconds, continue to hold for the full 20 seconds until you see it again.

Reattach the Type Cover or Keyboard

  • Re-attach the Cover, making sure that all the magnets touch the bottom edge of your Surface.

Confirm connectivity

  1. To confirm connectivity, press the Caps and Fn keys on your Surface Type Cover or Keyboard a couple of times to check whether the LED lights turn on and off.
  2. If the LED lights don't turn on, there might be a hardware issue and the next option is tosubmit a service order.
  3. IF the LED lights turn on, please see Troubleshoot Surface Type Cover or Keyboard - Microsoft Support for more troubleshooting steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Kind regards,

Lavenia

    Hi Johan!

There's no software issue here, the problem is related to the Type Cover flex. I do have the Surface Pro X SQ2 and it stopped working. I made my investigation, factory reset the Surface Pro, change UEFI settings, cleaned contacts and the problem persisted.

My best recommendation for people having this issue is to go to Amazon/eBay/Microsoft Store and purchase a new keyboard "Look for the generic Bluetooth version".

I have the same Surface Pro X keyboard issue. The keyboard suddenly stopped working recently. None of the suggested troubleshooting fixed the issue. Plus, going into the UEFI mode, it does not function.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on both the keyboard and the keyboard port on the Surface itself. Those pins are tiny, so be careful. They also seem to be spring-loaded (probably to make sure of a good connection with the contacts on the keyboard), so it might be worth pressing down on each pin and make sure it returns to its out position. I've used tiny tooth picks or needles to do this myself. Also make sure there aren't any that got stuck pressed-in.

I've been through several keyboards at this point, so it could be that your keyboard has failed. I finally started having issues with my latest keyboard working intermittently, after trying one more new keyboard that didn't fix this, I suspect that this keyboard port is actually failing on my Pro X. I hope that's not your problem, but it's another possibility. I gave up and bought a third-party Surface keyboard that connects via bluetooth instead of the keyboard port. The trackpad isn't quite as nice, but my issues are gone otherwise. Just a suggestion if you can't get yours working either by cleaning it or getting a new Microsoft brand Surface keyboard.
