I have a microsoft surface go 2 which is so slow it is effectively a brick

I have a microsoft go 2 that was purchased in April 2021.

It is running windows 11 (upgraded from Win 10 when win 11 came out).

the machine is effectively unusable and has been for some time. The issue is that it loads but it is EXTREMELY slow, even if I just open chrome, if I open a webpage of any kind I have to wait minutes for it to load. There is no problem with my wifi as other devices on my home network load instantaneously

Even pressing the windows button to get the menu leads to significant lag.

I've run all the relevant maintenance stuff, deleted files to ensure there is enough RAM and storage space.

It feels like an expensive brick, and particularly bad as my wife's much cheaper samsung galaxy a9 is a million times faster.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up, or any idea why it is so slow? Should I install Windows 10? Can I easily factory reset it to go back to functional?

    Hello, NiranN1.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

Surface Go 2 you may indeed consider going back to Windows 10 in order to continue using it if its performance drops significantly after upgrading to Windows 11. Although Surface Go 2 is able to support Windows 11.

I'm here to share with you a way to reset it completely, it's not difficult:

You will need to have a USB drive ready and preferably on another well-running device to visit the following site for a dedicated recovery image for Surface Go 2:

Surface Recovery Image Download - Microsoft Support

Get it by logging into your account and entering your device's serial number:

After completing the creation of the recovery drive, continue to refer to the guidelines in the following link to complete the recovery operation:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support

The link shows us a complete demo video and key textual guidelines:

By following the steps above, you will be able to complete the reset and go back to Windows 10.

In fact, for the Surface Go series, you can understand it as a simple version of Surface Pro. But I'm also frustrated with how this performance issue has caused you problems.

The hardware specs of the Surface Go 2 may not be able to run Windows 11 at its best performance.

After restoring the device, I recommend you to manually get the driver and firmware installer for Surface Go 2 to maintain the device performance:

Download Surface Go 2 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center ****

Please reboot your device after the download is complete to apply the driver updates.

I look forward to your progress and always support you.

    Best Regards.
