Surface Book 2 Battery Life

When I first purchased my Surface Book 2, the best I could get on battery was between 6-7 hours.  I now only get between 3-4 hours.  I have tried everything that I have seen suggested by the Microsoft moderators, all to no avail.  I love this machine except for the battery issue.  I have an i7 - 16 Gig ram - 512 hard drive.  Even using it on the best setting with just E-mail etc does not help.  I have a 3 year warranty on it from Costco and have had it for 1 1/2 years.  I was initially told that I could do nothing about it, but now I read how the battery can be changed.  I would appreciate any help or advice that you can give.

Thanks

Terry

When I first got it, I got 10-12 plus hours, I was blown away

Then the meltdown and spectre flaw was revealed. After applying the patches/updates, my battery life became 3-4 hours at best

Yet Microsoft still advertised the original battery life on their website. Shadily saying it was from a test unit in 2017 before the device was even launched. They sold it for years under the guise of good battery life but it really did not have good battery life any longer.

FYI I have swapped 4-5 times with replacements, all have the same issue, battery health appeared good on most units, so clearly the updates are hampering the device.

    Hi, roo1947!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry to learn about your Surface Book 2 that lasts 3-4 hours. We understand how important it is that you get to continue using the device for an extended period of time when running on battery power. This isn't the experience we want you to have. We appreciate you for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out.

You mentioned you did some steps. Please check these steps I will lay out to see if you've already performed them:

    • Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Then check the suggested solutions mentioned at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4483194/maximize-surface-battery-life and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20443

You also mentioned that you have a warranty from Costco. If you've already done all possible troubleshooting steps including a full reset of the device via Surface Recovery Image, kindly check with Costco for further assistance so you can also utilize the warranty you purchased at Costco.

We hope this helps you out.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z

Thank you for your input.  Much appreciated!  I contacted Costco and they are going to try a new battery next week.  Prior to that I called Microsoft and they told me that if it were still under their warranty the would not replace a battery, they would replace the machine.  Go figure the cost in that.  Maybe that is why I paid $3500 with tax.I still have a couple of old laptops that gave me better battery life than this.
