    Hi Paolo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Yes, with the Surface Laptop 7, you can indeed charge using the USB-C port. Additionally, you can use the same USB-C port to connect to an external monitor. This should make things much more convenient compared to the older models that relied on the proprietary Microsoft port.

I purchased the cables below, first because of their 240W capacity, and second because they were cheap. In case they didn't work, I wouldn't mind the $10 cost.

Amazon Basics USB-C to USB-C 4 Fast Charger Cable, 40 Gbps, 8K Video, 240W, USB-IF Certified, Thunderbolt 4/3 Compatible, for Apple iPhone 16/15, iPad, Samsung Galaxy, Tablets, Laptops, 3.3 Foot, Black

One more thing to be mindful of is that you need to plug the cable into a USB-C/Thunderbolt port on the monitor that has power out. Some monitors have both: a port that just receives data and another port that is able to receive data and send power out.

Hi, I just bought a surface laptop 7th edition.

Unfortunately, when I plug in a usb c it says that the pc is not charging and that I should use the provided charger.

I thought it was possible to charge the laptop with a usb c, which is also a requirement according to EU-regulation. Plus, it is very annoying to have to carry around a bulky adapter only because I need this special microsoft charger. If there are usb c chargers that do the job (in charging the surface laptop 7), can you please tell me how I can identify which one works?

    Thank you and best regards,

    R.

That is correct Correo. While the device can be charged via a USB-C PD charger, the charger still has to provide enough power to charge the device.

    R. Cadlolo1, you can view the charging requirements for Surface devices at Surface power supplies and charging requirements - Microsoft Support. The requirement for Surface Laptop 7 does vary by screen size, but it is either at least 39W or 60W.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg

Hi, I'm considering buying a new Surface and have the same question. However, I'd like to check that an external monitor can indeed be connected to the Surface Laptop 7 without any docks or adapters. The reason I am unsure is that in the description on the Microsoft website

Entdecken Sie das neue Surface Laptop in der 7. Edition, ein Copilot+ PC | Microsoft Surface

there is a note saying "[9] Die Verwendung von zwei Monitoren erfordert ein Gerät mit USB 4®-/Thunderbolt™ 4-Anschluss." ie that the use of 2 monitors is only possible with a device with USB 4®-/Thunderbolt™ 4 and this is NOT the case for the Surface Laptop 7. So I am really confused. Can I connect my Uperfect external display via the USB-C port on the Surface Laptop or not? Thanks.
