Cannot connect to Microsoft Display Adapter

I have had a MS Display Apter that I recently purchased from the Microsoft Store for about 3 months. It has worked well on my display at my office. I have updated the firmware to the latest, V.2.0.8442

-Beginning last week, ALL of the MS Display Adapters (4 of them) stopped connecting to ALL of our Windows 10/11 PCs.

  • I took one home last night and it worked flawlessly on my home network and my Surface Pro
  • It will not connect at work, the 2nd display shows "<USERNAME> is connecting to this display" followed by "Couldn't connect, wait a moment and try again". This behavior repeats. Sometimes by first display goes black and resizes and then comes back, sometimes it does not

IN RESPONSE, I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Run Windows Update on my Surface
  • Ensured that the Wireless Display public and private apps were allowed in the firewall
  • Turned off the firewall on the Surface
  • Connected the Surface to my Pixel's hotspot instead of the corporate WiFi
  • Reset the MS Display Adapter to factory default
  • Turned on and off my Surface's VPN (OpenVPN and IPVanish)
  • Deleted the Miracast Display device from Device Manager
  • Attempted to use the Wireless Display Adapter app to connect to the adapter.

I am not the only person onsite who is experiencing this problem, no one can connect to MS Display Adapters. One of the older versions (more the size of an Amazon Firestick) will connect but only for about 1 minute, then disconnects.

Any help appreciated!

    Hello Rolando

    Regarding your suggestions:

2: I do not connect my Display Adapter to any specific network. I do know that the 4K version can but this is not that version of the adapter. I access it from my Surface Pro. I tried connecting my Surface Pro to my phone's hotspot so it was not on the corporate network but I still could not connect to the Display Adapter, even after a factory reset of the device.

    1. I connected it to another display but the same problem persists.

I brought the adapter home, and connected to the TV in my house and it worked normally.

There are 3 other adapters at the office facility that are all experiencing the same problem for all users.

    Hello Peter,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern to us and sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting to your Microsoft Display Adapter. Based on the troubleshooting steps you've already taken; it sounds like the issue may be related to your corporate network or firewall settings. Here are a few additional steps you can try:

    1. Check with your IT department to see if there have been any recent changes to the network or firewall settings that could be blocking the connection.
    2. Try connecting to the Microsoft Display Adapter using a different device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to see if the issue is specific to your Windows 10/11 PCs.
    3. If possible, try connecting the Microsoft Display Adapter to a different display to see if the issue is with the adapter itself.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to contact Microsoft live support for further assistance. They can help you troubleshoot the issue and determine if there is a hardware or software problem with the adapter. You can reach them through these steps:

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support
