Problem with my sound in the video call, voice is not clear with too much disturbances.

I got a surface labtop 3 last December.

Everything else is working well except one problem.

My voice when I am making a video call is not clear at all.

My windows 10 version is 1909.

I have updated my windows, scanned for hardwAre changes in the control panel, uninstalled and reinstalled the sound drivers, did the troubleshooting and everything else. The problem with the sound still persists. My voice is muddled and some of the words I speak is omitted. However, my speaker is working fine and I am able to hear the voice from others in a call very loud and clear.

Please help me with this issue. I am a student and I need to make a video call every day.

Thank you very much!!

    Hi Janette,

Thank you very much for all the information. I did the SFC and in-place upgrade both. The SFC said some of the files have been repaired. But still, the problem persists. When I record my own voice too, it is very unclear with disturbances in the background.

However, the speaker is working very good.

Do we have any other options to solve this problem?

Thanks very much. I appreciate it.

    Sincerely,

    Sujan

    Hi Janette,

Thank you for the information. My voice is not heard clearly when I am doing a video call on Zoom and messenger both. I have the latest version of the windows and I tried to run the surface diagnostic toolkit as well. It is not helping out. My voice is repeated to the second person in the video call and he/she is not able to hear clearly. They say it hears like some disturbances in the background. When I record my voice using the built in camera, it is still not clear.

My defense and proposal seminar dates are approaching.

I would be grateful if we can save this problem.

    Thank you very much!!

    Best,

    Sujan

    Hi, SujanPaudel1!

Thanks for responding and it seems that this may be a hardware issue since the built-in Camera app doesn't capture clear sound. Can you Check your default audio device settings solution if this helps?

If not, kindly run the system file checker to detect corrupted files and repair it. Please get to this page to be guided on Using System File Checker in Windows 10.

SFC stands for system file checker and it will detect corrupted drivers and repair it. This also inspects all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds a problem with any of these protected files, it will replace it.

If the issue persists, please download this in-place upgrade to repair any corrupted drivers on your Surface device OS. Just click "Download Tool Now" run and install, then once "Upgrade This PC" appears, just hit Next. This won't delete the files nor the applications that are installed on the Surface device so nothing to worry about.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z

    Hi, SujanPaudel1!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are truly sorry if you have sound issues whenever you're in a video call using your Surface Laptop 3. We understand how important it is nowadays to be able to communicate seamlessly online as it is essential for school/work. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out.

    • May we know the name of the app that is involved here?
    • Is it happening on other apps like Skype, Teams, etc?
    • Is it happening when you record a video of yourself using the built-in Camera app?

In the meantime, please perform the following troubleshooting steps.

    ·         Check again for Windows Update, make sure you have the most recent one:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

    ·         Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and make sure to complete the tasks.

    ·         Force shutdown the device and restart.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

If this answers your question, please let our Community know by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
