So my surface-type cover is suddenly not being detected by my surface. It was working perfectly fine 2 hours ago then when I came back to it after charging, it is just not being detected at all. I cleaned the inhibitors incase they were dirty and interrupting the connection. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?? Since it is not being detected, I cannot use it at all and all the drivers for it are gone since it is not there.

    Hi BrendanLe1,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you. I will be asking question to help to us isolate the issue.

May I know what build version of Windows are you on?

Is there a chance for you to test the keyboard to another Surface or test another keyboard to your Surface device? This will help us isolate of which is having an issue.

You may try to do the steps below.

Force the device to shut down and restart to clear hardware cache

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and make sure to install all the updates including optional updates

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

To check for updates: Go to Settings >> Update and Security >> Windows updates >> Check for updates

Boot your device to UEFI screen

    1. Shut down your Surface.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same time, press and release the power button.
    3. When you see the Surface logo, release the volume-up button.
The UEFI menu will display within a few seconds.
    4. Under Devices, select Type cover and toggle it to off then turn it back on. Then restart your Surface.
    5. Verify if keyboard (arrow keys) allows you to progress through menus, or the touchpad allows control of the mouse arrow.

If both keyboard and touchpad doesn't work in UEFI, then we know it's a hardware problem.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

EDIT: I forgot to say I do not have the option to try my surface cover on another surface.

I was up to date yesterday according to my windows updates but right now I see there are the updates KB890830 - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and KB5022282 - Cumulative Update for Windows 10, I will be updating these and trying again however yesterday I already tried all of these solutions and none worked.

Yes, it is still not working.

Does issue persist after installing these updates KB890830 - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and KB5022282 - Cumulative Update for Windows 10?

Did you boot your Surface to UEFI screen and toggle "Type cover" under Devices?

If still that didn't work and both keyboard and touchpad doesn't work in UEFI, then it is more likely a hardware issue. Your need a replacement.
