Microsoft Laptop Studio with 2023 G95NC 57 inch Odyssey Neo G9 (7.680 x 2.160)

Hello,
I connected the new 57 inch odysses neo g9 to my microsoft laptop studio (32GB RAM; Nvidia GeForce RTX3050Ti; regular, not the new Studio 2). The highest resolution I am able to get is 5120 x 1440 and not the full 7.680 x 2.160.

Is the laptop studio just not capable to deliver the full resolution or is there anything I need to adjust (I am using a 8k USB C to HDMI cable). I am able to get 2x 4k resolution if I use a docking station and picture in picture mode but I prefer the single monitor option.

    Hi Alexander_659,

    Thank you for the response.

Regarding with your question on the offered screen resolution, yes, you got it correctly. However, you mentioned that you are connecting the external monitor through USB-C to HDMI, checking the external monitor specs (Samsung 57" Odyssey Neo G9), it shows that it also has a DisplayPort available. Please try to connect the monitor to the Surface through DisplayPort to USB-C then see how it goes. DisplayPort will allow you to use the highest supported resolution and refresh rate with your Surface.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

Had a similar issue recently after purchasing a Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 (13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7, 64 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060) I was successfully running it with two additonal UHD monitors. I purchased a Samsung 57" Odyssey Neo G95NC Curved QLED DUHD Gaming Monitor (7,680 x 2,160) to replace these and struggled to get it to work. The suggested response to this post was the only thing that worked and allowed the monitor to run. While I tried a 4k Display Port to UCB-C that I had around, only an 8K 1.5m Display port to USB-C was recognised by the monitor and worked at full 7,680x2,160 both directly into the USB-C port of the computer and also via Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock. Thank-you @Marrion_Y!

    Hello Marrion,

I tried an 8k USB-C to DisplayPort cable today as you suggested and I actually am able to get 7680 x 2160 (up to 120 Hz refresh rate) with the Surface Laptop Studio!

Do you think I would be able to get 7680 x 2160 also for a second monitor with a dual monitor setup powered by the Surface Laptop Studio?

    Kind regards,

    Alex

    Hello Marion,

thank you for the fast response.

You are right, this is a Surface Laptop Studio (Surface Laptop Studio – Infinitely flexible – Microsoft Surface) and not a Surface Laptop Studio 2 (Surface Laptop Studio 2: A laptop like no other | Microsoft Surface).

Do I understand the following information correct?

    • The Surface Laptop Studio as well as the new Surface Laptop Studio 2 support a max. external resolution of 5120 x 2880 ? Therefore the settings offer me only 5120 x 1440 for 32:9 ?
    • If I use 2 external monitors (e.g. with a docking station) the max. resolution supported for both monitors is 4096 x 2304 for the Surface Laptop Studio as well as for the new Surface Laptop Studio 2? In this case the display settings would offer a resolution of 4096 x 1152 for 32:9?

    Hi Alexander_659,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are experiencing issues with the resolution of your Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio when connected to your 57-inch Odyssey Neo G9 monitor.

First, I would like to clarify and make sure that we get the exact model of your Surface. This is a Surface Laptop Studio (Surface Laptop Studio – Infinitely flexible – Microsoft Surface) and not a Surface Laptop Studio 2 (Surface Laptop Studio 2: A laptop like no other | Microsoft Surface), correct?

Please note that the maximum supported screen resolution of the Surface Laptop Studio or Surface Laptop Studio 2 is 5120 x 2880 for single monitor connected directly to the USB-C port of the device.
